Nestled among lush valleys and unspoilt plateaus, it is a true haven for anyone looking to relax and reconnect with nature. Outdoor lovers will feel right at home: hikers and cyclists can explore varied landscapes, with spectacular views and moments of tranquillity.
Vianden also charms visitors with its rich historical heritage. Its medieval castle, an iconic gem, bears witness to centuries of history and invites you on a journey back in time. The town also offers a wide range of cultural and leisure activities for all ages. Visitors can enjoy local cuisine, discover welcoming hotels and restaurants, and take part in seasonal events that bring the town to life.

Felsenland Südeifel, a landscape shaped by sandstone
Located in the south of the Eifel, in Rhineland-Palatinate, on the Luxembourg border, this spectacular natural region has a name that literally means “land of rocks”. A fitting description of a landscape shaped by towering sandstone formations, narrow gorges and deep forests.
This area stands out for its impressive sandstone boulders and cliffs, carved over millennia by erosion. Among the most iconic sites is the spectacular Teufelsschlucht (“Devil’s Gorge”), a narrow rocky ravine where immense walls seem to close in on visitors. Some formations take on striking shapes, giving rise to many local legends and traditions.
Part of the German–Luxembourg Nature Park, the region boasts remarkable biodiversity. Mixed forests, limestone plateaus, river valleys and meadows create a protected environment, ideal for hiking and wildlife watching. Marked trails also make it possible to explore the Irrel waterfalls, nestled in the heart of still-wild nature.
Picturesque villages and sweeping panoramas
Here and there, charming villages such as Bollendorf or Irrel dot the landscape. Their traditional architecture and peaceful atmosphere invite you to unwind. Nearby, the historic city of Trier, a former Roman settlement, further enhances the area’s cultural appeal.
Highly popular with hikers, climbers and lovers of wide-open spaces, the region offers a dense network of scenic trails. Routes wind through forests, along cliffs and to spectacular viewpoints over the surrounding valleys.
Between geological mystery, grand landscapes and rural serenity, Felsenland Südeifel stands out as an ideal destination to discover an authentic, unspoilt side of western Germany.
